We all know that beauty exists inside and out, but let’s be real, your physical appearance, meaning the way in which you present yourself on a first date says a lot about who you are! Kavita Suri, Award winning Make-up Artist, owner of Kavita Suri Spa and Beauty Editor at Asian Women Canada Magazine gives us the tips, tricks and deets that every young, successful and confident South Asian woman should know when she’s prepping up to show the world (and her man) how amazing she is!
TwoMangoes is all about representing the most stylish way to socialize and ‘date’. As a Beauty Expert, I decided it would be best to write this article on the basis of how South Asian men feel about South Asian women presenting themselves on the first date. I am single and loved the insight I gathered through surveying South Asian Men.
Remember bring your best in a humble and tasteful way!!!
1. What are the top 3 make-up application ‘turn offs’ with the way South Asian Women present themselves on their first date?
Caked-on-Make-up: In other words wearing too much for your own good. Avoid: The “raccoon eye” effect, which means, don’t do the “smokey eye look” on your first date. Solution: If you like to over do it on a regular basis keep it toned down on the first date and play it up on the 3rd or 4th date.
Sparkles: There is a time and place to add your sparkle, but definitely NOT on the first date. Avoid: Bringing your princess ways out during your first meeting. Men look at sparkles as high maintenance and you don’t want that to be the first impression you give him. Solution: If you like the “sparkling” effect, replace it with a softer shimmer powder.
Not applying enough for your style: For example, if you apply a dark lip and don’t have foundation or any eye make-up on, it leaves your look unfinished or can give the impression that you cut corners. Avoid: Applying a single make-up product to make your look complete. Solution: Make an effort to look classy and be excited about being on the date and look into all your make-up options.
2. Common complaint men have about South Asian girls is that they wear the color Black all the time. What are your favorite colors to see on a girl? Surprisingly the complaint about South Asian girls wearing black can be fixed. If you love wearing black, all you have to do is add a pop of color with your jewelry. Play up your make-up style as well or even add a nice colorful clutch or a pair of sexy shoes. Don’t be a blank slate, show your personality in many ways as there are options. Also, take consideration about the time of year you are going on your date and season your look!
3. South Asian Women are known for their long lustrous hair. Do you prefer it to be worn up or down on the 1st date? South Asian men really do appreciate our reputation of having long lustrous hair. They love it when we wear it down with soft curls.
4. Jewelry is a fun way to jaz up an outfit. When is it too much?? The best answer was “it is too much when a girl has a ring on every finger”. That’s says it all! Girls…simplicity always wins.
5. Perfume is a personal preference, what are the scents that get you going? Smelling pleasant is key! Men are attracted to scents that have sweetness to them, such as vanilla and rose. So next time you choose your perfume keep this in mind. Top Perfumes that made the cut were: Angel, Juicy Couture & Chanel no5.
Good Luck on your next DATE!!
Thank You and Thank You to all the South Asian men that gave their input!!!
